Oxalis megalorrhiza

Very particular succulent, consisting of a large caudiciform root, partially exposed out of the ground, from which thin woody stems depart from the typical greyish and almost paper outer bark, under which hides a more fleshy bark, sometimes streaked with red; just in reference to the peculiar swollen caudex the species takes the name of "megalorrhiza", in Greek literally "from the big root". Commonly known also as Fleshy sorrel, this specimen is also renowned for the acidic taste of its foliage, rich in oxalic acid. Only at the apex of the thin stems depart sparse trilobed leaves, more fleshy than the other species and a characteristic very intense emerald green, which perfectly matches the pale yellow of its small spring campanulate flowers.
