O. juncifolium grows in small groups of bulbs, has narrow elongated leaves and white delicate flowers with central green stripes. It reaches a maximum height of 10-12 cm. Its name comes from Greek vocabulary and has two etymological variants: according to some, it literally means “bird's milk”, referring to the milky liquid, that comes out, when the stems get cut; according to others, it means "rooster comb", to indicate the characteristic shape of its flowers, when they are closed.
