It is a compact succulent, has stems up to 20 cm long, densely covered with triangular, fleshy and pointed gray-green leaves, arranged in 5 rows, which sometimes form a kind of spiral (hence its name). At first sight it looks a lot like Astroloba herrei, from which it differs for its beautiful flowers, which are puffed up and wrinkled (A. herrei has non-wrinkled flowers), of a tender white-cream color. The plant blooms in the period between December and May.
