Neoraimondia

Its name literally means "new Raimondia", in honor of the geographer and naturalist Antonio Raimondi (the term Raimondia was already used to identify an Annonacea). Commonly known also as "baseball cactus" for its columnar shape, that can reach up to 15 meters in height, its epidermis is tinted in a very bright green color and from whose areoles protrude thorns that are among the longest existing in the world of cacti. It is an extremely robust plant, which perfectly resists outdoors, especially when planted directly in the ground: suitable for novice growers, it will give your garden a desert charm, as only a specimen so solemn and majestic can do! Here are some tips for its proper care and cultivation: Neoraimondia likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations. It prefers rather mild temperatures, however it is able to survive even at temperatures close to freezing, if the condition of a perfectly dry soil in respected. It needs to be watered moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer, and suspend completely the wateting in winter. We suggest you as the optimal soil a well-draining one, which is even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli. These are plants that do not need frequent fertilization, it will be sufficient to dilute a specific cacti fertilizer with the watering once a year.
