Urginea

Often also known by the name of Drimia, it is a typical succulent highly appreciated, both for its characteristic bulb generally exposed out of the ground and for the showy inflorescences. In spring, from relatively small bulbs, the inflorescences appear that might exceed even 40 centimeters in height, and which form a conical cluster of dense, generally white flowers, often with showy central purple veins: a true beauty of nature that you can admire paying little attention to the plant! Here are some easy tips for its proper care and cultivation: Avoid direct sun rays, which may burn the plant; it is better to place it in a sheltered and bright location. The best option is the morning sunlight until 12.00 / 13.00, or the afternoon sunlight afer 15.00 / 16.00. It requires mild temperatures, it is advisable to shelter it when winter temperatures drop below 10 °C. During the growth period it is advisable to water it only when the soil is dry. During the rest period, however, it is necessary to completely suspend watering: the bulbs are very sensitive to rotting, therefore it is better to water less. A well-draining substrate with a strong organic component is an optimal solution. It is required to choose the one in which the bulb can grow both underground and on the ground, where it will still be able to root. They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
