This beautiful plant has never been found in nature, it is almost certainly a hybrid from South African parents, it seems to have been cultivated by seed in the imperial gardens of Vienna. It is a succulent made up of slender stems not very long, characterized by the tendency to prostrate towards the soil and to curl in tufts of fleshy stems. These stems are formed by four ribs furrowed by soft teeth, and have the magnificent characteristic of varying in color, going from a vibrant green to purple according to sun exposure. In the flowering period the Stapelia mutabilis is adorned with star-shaped flowers, spotted or streaked in an eye-catching burgundy red, really intense!
