Succulent with extremely small dimensions, whose fleshy stems do not exceed 4-5 cm in height, tending to branch at the base and sometimes to prostrate towards the ground. The epidermis, of a beautiful emerald green that fades towards the violace when the succulent is abundantly exposed to the sunlight, is slightly tuberculated and adorned by soft little teeth that are pronounced. The real strength of Stapelia is undoubtedly the peculiar inflorescence that blooms at the base of the stems: of an intense purple-burgundy, each flower is 5-pointed star-shaped, extremely shiny and covered by a long dark down that makes it absolutely original and elegant (hence the name of the species itself); in the center of the flower, an opaque flat ring helps make it even more harmonious and refined, for a breathtaking final effect!
