Sometimes considered a subgenus of the Lobivia or Echinopsis family. These majestic cacti, often enriched by many small suckers around the mother plant, are among the longest-living ones: they have spherical stems that, with age, may have slightly elongated, almost cylindrical shapes, which reach considerable size over time and can grow for many years! Having a long life, growth times are also quite long but, if you wait for awhile, it will delight you with rich blooms in the most flamboyant colors. The blooms are rich and spectacular: the flowers are large with bright colors like red, yellow, orange. The flowers tend to grow on the top of the plant, arranged like a crown that will adorn your cacti for long periods! Here are some easy tips for its proper care and cultivation: It requires a lot of light during all seasons and likes direct sunlight, with the exception of the youngest plants, which should be shaded during the hottest hours of the day. It is advisable to place it in sheltered places, but always very bright, when temperatures drop below 10 °C. Water moderately in hot weather, always making sure that the soil is completely dry between a watering and the next one. In winter, however, it is advisable to completely stop watering and avoid humidity. A substrate suitable for cacti, which is well draining is the optimal solution. They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
