It is a compact plant with green, soft leaves completely covered with a silvery down. The plant blooms mainly during late summer, a period after which the plant can lose its leaves and its flowers and enter its vegetative resting period, keeping itself alive by using the resources accumulated in the tuberous part -the caudex.
