Plectranthus ambonicus, also called 'Cuban oregano' or ‘Mexican thyme’, is a plant that is not difficult to grow, but it prefers warmer climates. P. amboinicus has stems that can reach almost one meter in length and also cling if they can find some grip and grow by clinging. Its leaves are green and quite broad, these are placed evenly along the stems. This species is full of surprises, in fact in Caribbean but also Indian cuisine it is widely used thanks to the very good smell it emanates, a mixture of oregano, thyme and sage and manages to give to the dish, which generally consists of fish dishes or soups, a fresh and unique flavor, but sometimes the leaves are also fried. Furthermore, an essential oil with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties can be extracted from the leaves. Here it is usually grown in pots. Plectranthus ambonicus is really special and it is impossible not to have it in your collection, its characteristics will be immediately loved and certainly will not go unnoticed!
