Description:

The variegated shape of this cactus presents yellow areas or streaks in the exact points where there is a lack of chlorophyll; such streaks will never be identical in different plants making each of them unique and for this reason very appreciated by collectors. In its normal form it is a cactus with a cylindrical stem surrounded by hairy and long filaments, initially yellowish in time assume a gray-white color. The filaments are mainly thicker in the apical part, creating a sort of "hat" with the function of protection from sunlight. On the stem there are large and oval areoles of a white-gray color and instead the long spines take on a yellow-brown color. The daytime flowering takes place in spring, and you can admire beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers of a pale pink color with purple shades. Only adult plants can develop flowers.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight.

It is better to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 4 °C, for this reason it is recommended to place it in sheltered and ventilated places during the winter.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer, once a month in autumn and suspend watering completely in winter.

The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice or lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
