It is a small columnar cactus, made up of cylindrical stems, entirely covered with long and thick white hairs, that seem to cover it, hence its name of "dressed Opuntia". Its particular crested shape, which makes it unique in its kind and therefore highly appreciated by green collectors, arises from the wounds of the young plant: it is a reaction to the lesion, the cells at the extremities begin to multiply and grow with a frenetic speed, overlapping and giving life to its characteristic fan shape. At the ends of its stems it rarely generates flowers, ranging in color from deep red to purple.
