Description:
It's a columnar cactus that can reach up to 30 cm in height and can branch over time. Its dense spines take on all shades of red, hence the name Rubrispina. At the apex of the plant we can see a thickening of longer spines. It blooms in early spring forming a crown that surrounds the apex of the stems. Its flowers of all shades of deep purple-pink last for several days.

It is native to tropical dry forests at 600-1900 meters above sea level. It is a columnar cactus, that can reach up to 40 cm in height. Its green stem is completely covered with multiple spines, ranging from white to brown. In spring, bloom pink to purple flowers, creating a crown around the apex of the plant.

Plant care:
It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.
It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.
Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.
The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.
They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
