The name of this species derives from latin and means “that seems burnt”, probably referring to the brown spines that characterizes it. It presents thin cylindrical stems that maintain contained dimensions up to 20 cm of height, since it tends to expand horizontally in extended cushions made of multiple heads. The tuberculate body is completely covered by thin and thick brownish spines which contrast nicely with the white of the rounded areolas. Between spring and summer, pretty little flowers bloom bright fuchsia petals with a yellow center, which crown the apex of the stems with lively and showy notes.
