Mammillaria oteroi

The name of this cactus was chosen in honor of its first collector, Felipe Otero. It is a pleasant cactus with a globose body, equipped with very prominent conical tubercles of a beautiful dark green. Each stem does not exceed a few centimeters in diameter, but tends to tuft abundantly up to generate a kind of cushion with multiple extremely striking heads. From large white and woolly areoles come out clear radial spines, needle-like and radiated, rather long enough to create a thick weave that partially hides the stem. It is usually present a single central spine strongly hooked and tending to fade from the white to the reddish-brown of the tip. In the middle of the tangle of thorns, in spring, wonderful white flowers bloom, whose petals have a showy pinkish median line, for an overall appearance that reflects the perfect combination of elegance and ferocity!
