Its name was chosen in honor of the German collector Robert Gulzow from Berlin. It is a small-sized cactus with globular shape and it can reach a maximum diameter of about 10 cm but tends to tuft very soon. From conical tubercles emerge very thin and sparse brownish radial thorns that are not very evident, which merge into the thick white "hair" that covers the entire plant. Between the dense hair protrude single central hooked spines, reddish-brown in color, which contrast nicely with the whiteness and soft appearance of the cactus. In the summer the charm of this Mammillaria is strongly accentuated by large pink / purple flowers, which bloom at the apex and emanate a delicate scent.
