Description:

The term Chimera comes from the Greek and literally means "goat": it refers to the ancient Greek Chimera, the famous mythological monster having, according to the stories, a goat head attached to a lion’s body. More generally, it is spoken in mythology of chimera referring to a being made up of different animal body parts. Similarly, in botany is considered a chimera that plant consisting of two different species grafted together, which shows characteristics of one and the other. Being a chimera and not a simple hybrid, you get a single body, in which, however, the tissues never blend, keeping the characteristics of the two different species well differentiated. Hylocalycium 'Rainbow Dragon' is a chimera of Hylocereus trigonus and Gymnocalycium mihanovichii 'Hibotan'. It has green stems with streaks and red spots inherited from G. mihanovichii; its brownish spines are small and thin, similar to those of Hylocereus.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce it to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best soil is a well-draining and porous one, even better if further enriched with 50% of inert materials such as pumice, lapilli or clay.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
