This succulent plant native to Saudi Arabia has long stems with 4-5 vertical ribs and serrated with protruding pointed tubercles. The epidermis is green mottled with purple-red which tends to increase after prolonged exposure to the sun. The highlight of this plant are its starry-shaped inflorescences: they show beautiful shades of dark red or in some cases black-purple and are dotted white/ yellowish giving the plant a very attractive appearance. Generally, the flowers of the Huernie have a very unpleasant smell which helps to attract the pollinating insects, but the flowers of Saudi-Arabica have very little..
