Huernia

Its name was chosen in honor of Justus van Heurne - a Dutch missionary, who was the first to have an interest in this type of plants in the 17th century. With an aspect, similar to cactaceous plants, they are actually succulents, which, in order to adapt to their arid environment, have transformed their leaves into spines. Their slender stems, subdivided in four well marked vertical ribs, do not reach remarkable heights, but rather tend to cover wide horizontal spaces. They are plants, that don't need frequent attention, but, if you know, how to take care of them, they will reward you with flowers of a truly unique appearance: star-shaped, with the petals, that are joined together, often by a sort of fleshy and shiny disk, and they take on very particular extravagant and lively shades!
