The crested shape of this succulent plant has a fan-like arrangement due to its crest; a feature that is never the same in plants, making each of them unique in its kind and for this reason much sought after by collectors. In its normal form it is a perennial succulent plant that easily tufts, discovered by Francis Masson in 1796. It has pentagonal stems, green gray with small brownish streaks, covered by multiple small tubercles. It is a plant very appreciated for its unique flowers and the particular star shape. The flowering takes place from June to October, generating beautiful cream white flowers with magenta streaks and with the inside completely covered by numerous bumps.
