The crested shape of this succulent shows a fan crest that, as it will never appear identical in different plants, makes each specimen unique and motorcycle appreciated by collectors around the world. The genus Hoodia takes its name from Van Hood, grower of succulent plants, instead the name of the variety 'gordonii' honors R. Gordon, who discovered it in 1778. Also called "Queen of the Namib" - "Queen of Namibia" and "Kalahari cactus" - "Kalahari cactus", because it resembles a cactus even if it is actually a succulent. It has a greyish green and branching stem, covered by numerous tubercles, which look like thorns. In August and September you can admire the wonderful flower of Hoodia: flat, round, it looks like a disk, with a color ranging from brown to purple with tiny dots and slightly lighter veins. It gives off an unpleasant smell.
