Its name comes from the Latin and literally means "thorny candle", in. reference to the columnar posture of the plant, like the genus Cereus, but with a more spiny stem. In nature there are many species of Echinocereus, for this, also have very varied characteristics: they can develop in an erect way, but also creeping or even falling from the rocks, have thorns more or less dense and of various colors, and finally they tend to grow solitary or, more often, to gather in bushes. The crested shape of this cactus presents the typical fan-shaped arrangement that makes each exemplar absolutely unique, never identical to another and for this reason so much appreciated by collectors.
