Drimiopsis atropurpurea

The name of the species literally means "dressed in dark", to identify the main characteristic of this succulent: its leaves are "dressed" by a wonderful very dark maculature which, after all, according to botanists, it is a perfect trick adopted in nature to avoid becoming prey to animals. Usually, in pot, it is preferred to keep the squamous bulb seeds semi-exposed, that is only partially underground, for conferring to the plant an ulterior ornamental effect; just from the bulb its peculiar leaves, flat and of obovate shape, branch off, pointed at the apex and hairy only on the lower surface. They get shades of an intense emerald green, pleasantly contrasting with the blackish speckles of the glabrous upper surface!
