Description:

Its name 'Dragon Tree' comes from the Greek word "drakon" ("dragon"). Often also called 'Dragon's Blood Tree' for its characteristic resin that takes on a reddish color when exposed to air. It is a magnificent slow growing perennial plant, to which it takes up to 10 years to reach a meter in height. After 30 years of life, its solitary silver-gray trunk begins to bloom, forming showy panicles with yellow-green flowers and, only after the first flowering, it begins to branch in a bifurcated way until it takes on the particular umbrella shape. D. draco in nature can reach up to 20 m in height, when cultivated it usually reaches 12-15 m. It is an ornamental plant, often used to decorate gardens, green areas and parks.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 12 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in autumn and winter.

The best soil is a well draining one, for example formed by a mix of peat and pumice so that water does not stagnate.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
