Didierea madagascariensis

The name of the species identifies at first sight the native place of these beautiful succulents, which usually grow among sandy dunes of the desert areas by adopting stratagems to survive those climates: it has fleshy columnar stems, which are not too thick, sometimes they are semi-woody, which are able to store water and to retain it thanks to long sturdy white spines. These spines alternate with light green and equally long, thin and linear leaves, generally arranged in clusters at the apex of the branches. During the flowering period, the succulent's ornamental appearance is amplified by candid tubular flowers.
