Its name comes from the Greek and literally means "small lyre covered of leaves", in reference to the global aspect of the plant: it presents, in fact, a spherical cork base, covered with old leaves that give it an extremely ornamental touch. At the apex of this brown disc very long leaves come out, up to one meter each, narrow and sharp, with thorny margins; they have the particular characteristic of having rays along the cork base, creating a truly spectacular effect inimitable, very similar to those of the palms that, in the areas of origin, can reach the exponential height of 15 meters! This plant is commonly also known as "desert spoon". Its flowers are small, ranging in color from white to pinkish.
