Cylindrophyllum comptonii

This wonderful succulent carpet is native to South Africa where the climate is arid. The rains are present only in winter while the rest of the year are absent. In these dry conditions, in rocky hills and otherwise in unfavourable soils, the Cylindrophyllum have adapted for survival by storing water reserves in their fleshy leaves. They are indoor plants accustomed to warm climates with sunny locations, and do not require special care and attention. The leaves are arranged in pairs, they have a similar appearance to those of the fingers of a hand. Cylindrophyllum comptonii has ivory-white flowers that open at noon and close in the late afternoon.
