Description:
It is a rare succulent plant, which naturally grows close to Kleinsee in South Africa. The name of Conophytum derives from the Greek words "kònos" (cone) and "phytòn" (plant), due to the characteristic cone shape of the stem. Its leaves are fleshy, united at the base in bright green pairs and covered with a thick white down. Like the other Conophytum, C. hians also has a particular growth: the new leaves are formed inside the stem and then come out when the old leaves begin to dry out. The dried leaves protect the plant's body during the vegetative rest. In autumn you can admire its flowers of different colors: white, yellow, pink or purple.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once every two weeks in spring and summer, reduce it to every two months in autumn and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best soil is a well draining one, for example formed by a mix of peat and pumice so that water does not stagnate.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
