Description:

The name of the genus derives from the Greek word “chamai” - “on the ground, dwarf”, in fact it is an ornamental plant that always remains low. Also known as the "palm of St. Peter", it has a trunk covered with a dark brown bark. The leaves are erect, robust and rigid, of an intense green color, grouped in a fan at the end of long thorny petioles. It is a dioecious plant, which means that it produces both male and female flowers, typically of a pale yellow color, grouped in a panicle. After flowering, it generates many small, oblong, reddish-yellow fruits. Chamaerops humilis is a perfect plant to add a tropical touch to your gardens.

Plant care:

It prefers bright spaces, however it is very resistant and adapts to any type of environment without any problem.

It is an extremely resistant plant, it likes mild climates but, in temperate zones, it lives very well outdoors even in winter.

It is advisable, especially during the growth phase of the plant, to always keep the soil slightly moist.

A substrate consisting of soil mixed with coarse sand or gravel, in order to favor drainage, is an optimal solution.

They do not need frequent fertilizations, it is enough to dilute fertilizer with watering once a year.
