C. lutea is a succulent plant that does not reach great height but expands horizontally generating wonderful tufts lit. It has a pale green stem, often with red-brown spots or dots, equipped with tubercles ending in spiny tips, giving it a look at first sight very similar to a Cactacea. However, it clearly detaches from the cactus family due to its yellow flowers from which it takes its name (in Latin "luteum" in fact means yellow): from the characteristic star-shaped form, they emit a strong characteristic and unpleasant scent, which attracts insects to facilitate pollination. The flowering period lasts from November to April. Synonym: Orbea lutea
