This cactus honors the Brazilian researcher E. Esteves Pereira, who discovered this species. It has a solitary bluish-green columnar stem, with well pronounced ribs. Numerous needle-like spines protrude from the downy cream-colored areoles: the radial spines are about 1 cm long, of a yellow-cream color, while the central ones are more rigid, of a wonderful golden color that fades to dark brown, almost black towards the tip. In summer, it blooms with white funnel-shaped inflorescences. Austrocephalocereus estevesii is very easy to grow, it perfectly tolerates drought - the characteristics that make this plant ideal even for beginners.
