Its name honors the German botanist Adolar Gottlieb Julius Herre. It is a relatively rare succulent, has stems up to 20 cm long, densely covered with triangular, fleshy and pointed gray-green leaves, which are opaque on the upper part. At first sight it looks a lot like Astroloba spiralis, from which it differs for its beautiful flowers, which are puffed up (not wrinkled like those of A. spiralis), of a tender white-cream color. The plant blooms in the period between June and November.
