Description:

Beautiful succulent medium sized that can reach even 2 m in height. Its name comes from the Latin, from the union of 'bovi' meaning cow and 'cornu' that means horns, in relation to its marginal thorns that during the growth of the plant curved resembling the horns of a cow (hence the name Cow’s Horn Agave). Its leaves are fleshy and have a lanceolate shape, very wide in the center and narrow at the base, with serrated margins that can be red or dark orange. During the growth the leaves take on shades of yellowish green, while in the young plants they are glaucous green/bluish. The flowering period of A. bovicornuta is late winter-spring, at the apex of the plant bloom beautiful yellow and bright green flowers.

Plant care:

It requires a full sun exposure, even if it can stand a partial shade one only if it receives plenty of light all year around.

It prefers rather mild temperatures, however it survives even in temperatures close to freezing if the soil is dry.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. Once every two weeks in spring and summer and once every two months in autumn and winter.

A well-draining soil is an optimal solution, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
