Description:

Adenia venenata is a plant with a more or less woody caudiciform stem of greenish colour, which produces climbing stems that can reach up to 8 m of height! The caudex, which is perfect for storing large quantities of water to be used in periods of drought, tends to get brown tones at the base as it reaches the mature age. It has light green triangular leaves, which fall during the period of vegetative rest and then regenerate. During the flowering period it generates, on small peduncles, pretty yellowish green flowers.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light during all seasons, however avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.

Its natural habitat is in tropical climates, thus it does not withstand temperatures below 10 °C and it does not like too dry heat. It is therefore advisable to keep it away from cold and intense sun.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once every two weeks in spring and summer, and reduce the frequancy to once every two months in autumn and suspend it completely in winter.

The best option is a well-draining soil, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
