Description:

Wonderful exemplar of caudex, characterized by woody basal stem of generally round shape, sometimes equipped with asymmetric protuberances and completely covered by a rough and wrinkled bark. From the caudex depart, in the vegetative season, thin and twisted stems with climbing character, equipped with pleasant emerald green leaves of lanceolate shape (hence the name of the species), rather narrow and rich in veins along the upper surface. A curiosity: the caudiciform tuber, fundamental water reserve for the survival of the plant, was even used in the past by the native populations to suck it’s water and survive even in the desert!

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light during all seasons, however avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.

Its natural habitat is in tropical climates, thus it does not withstand temperatures below 10 °C and it does not like too dry heat. It is therefore advisable to keep it away from cold and intense sun.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once every two weeks in spring and summer, and reduce the frequancy to once every two months in autumn and suspend it completely in winter.

The best option is a well-draining soil, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
