In the name Monadenium aff. fanshawe, "aff." stands for "similar" (in Italian "affine"), this means, that the plant has not been officially classified yet. It was found in Tanzania and was temporarily given the name 'aff. fanshawe' (‘similar to fanshawe’). It is a caudiciform plant with green and fleshy annual stems. In fact, during the period of vegetative rest M. aff. fanshawe sheds both the stems and the leaves, to grow them back during the vegetative period. Monadenium is the synonym of Euphorbia.
