Its name comes from the name of a similar species of Gagea, which means "a little sour", referring to the taste of its foliage. It consists of a tuberous root, from which herbaceous-looking leaves sprout, that are lanceolate or sometimes filiform, of a vivid green color and often slightly hairy; the whole aspect is enlivened by particular star-shaped flowers, typically of a yellow color. Ideal for livening up flowerbeds or pots of any size. Not many people know that, in the past, this genus was used by native populations for food purposes, and it is still used in Africa as a medicine to support immune defenses. Recent studies, still being debated, affirm the importance of this plant for various pharmaceutical preparations, also in our continent!
