Cussonia

The name Cussonia takes its name from the professor of botany at the University of Montpellier Prof. Pierre Cusson. The genus Cussonia is represented by eleven different species, particularly present in South Africa; most of them are small to medium sized trees. Often called "cabbage-tree". A curious fact: in the region of its origin, its light and soft wood was used to build the brakes of wagons, while the leaves were used to make broth. In traditional medicine the roots, the bark and the flowers of this plant are used against malaria, nausea, fever, as well as to treat infections and inflammations. Cussonia is an ideal plant to add a tropical touch to your gardens!
