Momordica rostrata (Caudex)

The main feature of this beautiful succulent is a large caudal root, exposed out of the ground, of a typically irregular and massive shape, usually covered with a brown layer, which is similar to bark. From the upper part of the caudex long stems, thin and climbing, similar to tendrils, branch off. On the stems leaves, arranged in main groups of three, with wavy edges and of a bright green color emerge. It is a dioecious plant, therefore there are Momordicas with only female flowers and others with only male flowers: they differ only in the larger size of the male flowers, but all of them are generally of a yellow color with a purplish throat. The Momordica uses its massive caudex as a water reserve during the winter, when it becomes dormant and loses its green parts.
