It is an extremely peculiar plant, which at first sight might resemble a succulent but which actually belongs to the Cactaceae family. It grows like a shrub with a slender stem, which in the wild can reach up to 6 meters in height, branching abundantly and enriching itself with ovoid leaves, pointed at the tips, of a beautiful bright green adorned with veins on the upper surface. Along the stem, and mainly at the top of the cactus, sturdy, wide and reddish spines emerge, which create a perfect contrast with the foliage making this plant absolutely unique and pleasantly ornamental especially when, in spring, bright pink or purple flowers bloom.
