Wonderful cactus also known as "prickly pear of the plains'', has low-growing stems of dark green or blue-green color, shaped like a shovel as typical of this genus, studded with small brown woolly areoles and thin yellow or reddish radial quills. Its sparse but extremely long central spines are brownish in color, sometimes enriched by lighter shades. In spring and summer it generates large flowers of a soft and delicate yellow, which create a pleasant contrast between their elegance and the wild nature of the stem!
