It is a small perennial cactus, also known as Parodia scopa subs. succinea. The globular stem can turn columnar and start branching from the base, becoming clustered over time. On the numerous vertical and spiral ribs there are downy white areoles, from which many short yellowish spines grow. In summer it blooms, at the top, with large yellow flowers with thin, almost transparent petals, and long red pistils.
