Melocactus zehntneri (Cactus)

This cactus derives its name from the typical spherical shape similar to a melon (from the Latin “melo”). The stem has a striking peculiarity: at the apex of the mature plant there is in fact a "cephalium" with a globular shape which then grows into a cylindrical one, almost as if to look like a second plant. It is precisely on the cephalium that in summer pretty funnel-shaped flowers in shades of fuchsia and purple can appear.
