Frailea phaeodisca (Cactus)

We are talking about a real miniature jewel, a cactus that, growing very slowly, does not exceed 5 cm in diameter, however it manages to deeply strike the most attentive eyes thanks to the amazing amount of details enclosed in such a small space. This miniature cactacea has a globular stem of a beautiful dark green or brown, sometimes in the shape of a disc flattened at the apex; in nature it tends to grow almost completely underground, only the upper part coming out. It is equipped with symmetrical and slightly protruding longitudinal ribs, showing elongated and dark areoles; from these last really microscopic thorns come out, combed and flattened against the body of the cactus: despite their tiny size, these spines are tending to black at the base and faded towards a glassy white at the tip, for an absolutely peculiar and unique overall effect!
