Echinomastus unguispinus (Cactus)

Pleasant cactus consisting of a globose stem, slightly depressed at the apex, which with growth can tend to become cylindrical. It has a bluish-green body, equipped with strongly tuberculate longitudinal ribs from which emerge yellowish radial spines, thin and well straight, which are disposed to wrap the stem; the central spines are instead extremely robust, similar to an awl, of a greyish tending to fade towards black at the apex and characterized by slightly curved downwards for a length of more than 4 cm! At the apex of the cactus, among the thick spines, bloom in spring wonderful tubular greenish flowers, which opening take on reddish-brown hues with characteristic darker lines along each petal: the overall effect will be as wild as elegant!
