The name of the species comes from the valley of the Acuna, in southern Arizona, which is the place where E. acuensis was first discovered. This cactus has ovoid stems, slightly cylindrical, of a beautiful emerald green indented by little pronounced conical tubercles. At the apex of the tubercles grow very particular spines: the radial ones are often combed; arranged radially around the areoles; made of a beautiful creamy white color and enriched with reddish tips. The central plug instead, is single; more robust and facing upwards; of a pinkish hue at the base, which gradually fades towards the black. In nature they exceed even 5 cm of length! In spring the charm of this cactus is amplified by large bell-shaped flowers, in which their pink-purple notes contrast nicely with the yellow inside of the stamens, for an overall effect as lively as wild!
