Description:

An extraordinary species of plant native to the areas of Namibia. They are named after Friedrich Welwitsch, a well-known Austrian botanist and explorer who first documented the existence of this plant. They are Gnetophyte plants, distinguishable by their particular covering around the seeds, large in size, which resembles a rare fruit. A curiosity: it is said that the plant has a unique resistance, in nature and for this reason in areas of Africa they say of it: “two leaves cannot die”.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light during all seasons, however avoiding direct rays from the sun especially during the hottest hours of the day.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and above all never below 15°C, for this reason it is recommended to place it in sheltered and ventilated places during the winter.

Water moderately, only when the soil is completely dry. It is sufficient once a week in spring and summer, a reduction on a bimonthly basis in autumn and winter.

Well-draining and porous soil is optimal, even better if further enriched over 50% with inert materials such as pumice, lapillo, clay.
