The name Trichocereus comes from the Greek 'trichos' meaning 'hair', and 'cereus' meaning 'candle'. It is a solitary cactus and its green-colored stem has typical yellow variegated parts, which correspond to the points where chlorophyll is absent. Its dense spines are needle-like in color from yellow to brown. In late spring its magnificent, very large, white flowers bloom.
