Very flashy cactus, whose name derives from the Argentine location from which it comes; it has often been renamed due to some of its characteristics being common to the families of Trichocereus, Echinopsis and Lobivia. It has stems that reach even a meter in height, while they remain with a diameter of a few centimeters and tend to branch only at the base, creating extremely suggestive thorny bushes. They grow rather rapidly, developing upwards with light green colored ribs and needle-like spines, long and thin of a beautiful bright yellow color, sometimes brownish, which cover the entire stem and give it a wild apperance. The plant is further livened up in summer when large, bright red funnel-shaped flowers appear near the apex (hence the name by which it is commonly known as "red torch").
