The variegation makes T. chiloensis a unique exemplar from the moment when each variegated plant is distinct from the others. Its green columnar stem is covered by numerous thorns and also has several ribs. The areoles are woolly and white and from these come out the radial thorns of cream white colour, short, with brown dots. The central thorns, however, are long and erect. The flowering period is summer and it produces beautiful white flowers with shades of roses.
